| Mystery JG300 aircraft |
There are several 109's photographed with a three-color band upon which a short black bar has been applied. It is not known for certain to which unit these aircraft belonged. Only JG2 and JG300 wore three-colored bands as light as in the pictures but II./JG2 never flew the G-10 and neither did II./JG300. That leaves the possiblity that these aircraft had been taken over by another unit that did use a II. Gruppe bar or that these are machines from III or IV./JG300 and that they had the black bar applied when these units were united with II./JG300 under the designation Jagdgruppe 300. The last explanation would have been quite plausible except for the fact that this merging didn't occur until the last days of the war and it seems unlikely that there would have been time to add the black bar... |
